Arctic Sea Ice is a piece composed by Judy Twedt, climate researcher, atmospheric scientist, and data sound artist, with 36 years of satellite data of the sea ice index. Judy was chosen to be a speaker for TEDxSeattle 2018 and we got connected while she was in the process of finding a musician to work with in presenting her work and her new score written specifically for TEDx.
My collaboration with Judy has been a deeply fulfilling and eye opening experience as a musician, an educator, and a citizen of this world. The challenge of climate change is something we face collectively; as Judy says, no one person caused it and no one person can change it. Our hope lies in that we can come together in meaningful ways to understand and grieve the loss as well as to work towards the healing and the restoration of the planet we share.
