Arctic Sea Ice – TEDxSeattle

Arctic Sea Ice is a piece composed by Judy Twedt, climate researcher, atmospheric scientist, and data sound artist, with 36 years of satellite data of the sea ice index. Judy was chosen to be a speaker for TEDxSeattle 2018 and we got connected while she was in the process of finding a musician to work with in presenting her work and her new score written specifically for TEDx.

My collaboration with Judy has been a deeply fulfilling and eye opening experience as a musician, an educator and a citizen of this world. The challenge of climate change is something we face collectively; as Judy says, no one person caused it and no one person can change it. Our hope lies in that we can come together in meaningful ways to understand and grieve the loss as well as to work towards the healing and the restoration of the planet we share.

A link to Judy’s full TEDxSeattle 2018 talk will be available in a few months.

Meanwhile, the audio recording and the score of Arctic Sea Ice are available for downloads. Also, please consider making donations to support the work of the scientists and artists behind this endeavor to bring data-driven soundtracks to the public.  Follow this link for the downloads and to support.

Hope you enjoy this film produced by Henry Hiltner during the recording of Arctic Sea Ice at the Jack Straw Cultural Center.
